What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Glorious Church of Christ based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

We believe in one God who eternally exists in three distinct persons (The Trinity): the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and co-eternal. God the Father is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe. We believe that He is limitless in power, knowledge, wisdom, love, and holiness. He has revealed Himself as the Father of the redeemed.
(Genesis 1:26-27; Psalms 90:2, 97; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the second person of the Trinity. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, rose from the dead, and ascended into Heaven where He now sits at the right hand of the Father. He will return again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
(Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14; Romans 5:8; Hebrews 4:14-15)

Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He indwells every believer at the moment of salvation, providing power for living, understanding of truth, and guidance in righteousness. He gives every believer a spiritual gift for ministry.
(2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; Galatians 5:25)

Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired, authoritative, and infallible Word of God. Written by human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it is the final authority for all matters of faith, doctrine, and life.
(2 Timothy 3:16; Proverbs 30:5; Psalms 119:105, 160)

ManKind

We believe that all people are created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him, but were alienated through sinful disobedience. As a result, all are in need of reconciliation to God.
(Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:8)

Salvation

We believe salvation is a free gift from God, based on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is received through personal repentance, faith in Jesus, and a spiritual rebirth by the Holy Spirit. Baptism follows as a public testimony of faith.
(Romans 5:1, 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16; Titus 3:5-7; Galatians 3:26)

Church

We believe salvation is a free gift from God, based on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is received through personal repentance, faith in Jesus, and a spiritual rebirth by the Holy Spirit. Baptism follows as a public testimony of faith.
(Romans 5:1, 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16; Titus 3:5-7; Galatians 3:26)

Eternity

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, made up of every believer. It is expressed through local congregations where believers grow in faith, worship together, and serve their community. The Church is led by pastors and elders and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
(Ephesians 2:19, 4:11-13; Acts 2:42-47)

Marriage

We believe that God immutably creates each person as male or female. We uphold the biblical definition of marriage as the covenant union between one man and one woman. All sexual activity outside of this covenant is inconsistent with God’s design.
(Genesis 2:18-25; Hebrews 13:4; Matthew 19:4-6; 1 Corinthians 6:18)

Final Authority on Belief and Conduct

The Bible is the final and absolute authority in all matters of faith, doctrine, and conduct. For the purposes of doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, the Church Council of Glorious Church of Christ serves as the church’s final interpretative authority on the meaning and application of Scripture.
